THE OMORI AWARD The 5th Japanese language essay contest for the Japanese language learners around the globe
This contest develops upon the previous 25 contests organised by Mr & Ms Omorifor international students, students in China, and Japanese language learners
around the globe since 1989.
1. Theme:
1. My dream for the Japanese language and/or research: What do you want to do using
the Japanese language?
2. What I want to say to the Japanese government, companies, and people: Advice,
requests, expectations, wishes, etc.
• Choose one of the topics.
• 800 - 1,100 ji (excluding the title and name)
• Recommended reading: A country called Japan https://www.nihonwosiru.jp/pdf_book/
2. Eligibility: Non-Japanese nationals studying or researching the Japanese language
3. Entry deadline: December 31 (Friday) 2021
4. How to enter:
• Send your essay as an attachment to oikawasensei@yahoo.co.jp
• Include your nationality, name, age, gender, name of your school/institution or occupation, and email address.
• An individual entry or a collective entry as a university and Japanese language schools will be accepted.
5. Prizes
• First prize (2 people) Certificate and 300,000 yen
• Second prize (5 people) Certificate and 100,000 yen
• Third prize (20 people) Certificate and 30,000 yen
• Effort prize (50 people) Certificate and 10,000 yen
(The certificates will be a PDF sent by email to the winners)
6. Selection Process
• 1st and 2nd selection process by Mr Koji Oikawa (Representative of JASLON and Japanese language teacher) and his team
o A total of 77 essays (27 candidate essays for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd places, and the 50 effort awards will be selected.
• Placement of the 27 candidate essays by Mr Kazuo Omori (former journalist for the Asahi Shimbun) and Ms Hiroko Omori (chief-editor of the digital resource A country called Japan)
7. Outcome notification: May 2022
