Through this book, the authors hope to answer the questions and concerns of beginners with regards to work e-mails, such as “How should I start my email?”, “Will I be able to properly convey my requirements to the recipient?”, “Is the honorific language appropriate?”, and “Am I observing good manners?” It is hoped that this book will eliminate these problems and enable learners to communicate with confidence.
Structure of the book:
■Chapter 1: The 8 basic rules
Chapter 1 is broken down into eight lessons for each basic rule. Each lesson is made up of three parts: Warm-up, Checkpoint, and Practice. The student will learn how to write basic emails with the aim of writing accurate, easy-to-understand, and polite emails. The student will also learn the eight important rules for writing work emails in the order of basic email format: i.e., subject, address, beginning, main body of the email, and ending. Each lesson begins with a warm-up section to encourage the student to notice examples of misuse, and then check points to learn the rules in detail. Finally, the student will deepen his/her understanding of the rules through three practice exercises.
■Chapter 2: Writing a business email
While checking the rules learned in Chapter 1, the student will deepen his/her understanding of the flow and etiquette of work emails, as well learning how to write them in a practical manner, by exchanging emails with other people. The email themes are concentrated on subjects that frequently occur in business situations, such as “reports”, “requests”, “giving thanks”, and “apologies”, making them useful in actual work situations.
In addition, there is a list of emails by scenario and a vocabulary list with English, Chinese, and Vietnamese translations.
This book is recommended for people who want to acquire the ability to write work emails and those who aim to get a job at a Japanese company.
