The purpose of the Nihongo Sogo Enshu series is to organize and explain grammar in an easy-to-understand manner and have the learner practice how to use it, thereby ensuring he/she uses advanced-level Japanese appropriately. The learner follows a process of discovering a grammar rule while solving a problem, and then confirming the usage through practice. Finally, the learner does comprehensive practice as a summary of what has been learnt.

While systematically deepening the knowledge of such grammatical items that unify sentences as demonstratives, conjunctions, "noda," "wakeda" and "karada," the learner will pick up the detailed and proper usage required at the advanced level. As with other books in the series, while discovering related grammar rules, and through answering questions, the book aims at the learner being able to distinguish between subtle differences in usage. This book is also recommended for those engaged in teaching Japanese.
