The Points & Practice series allows students to prepare for exams in a short period of time, and this book is a collection of questions specifically aimed at those preparing for the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students.

The book consists of 12 chapters and a mock exam. In the first to third chapters, the student learns basic knowledge related to writing, such as how to read assignments, how to use manuscript papers, writing style, and the structure of opinion statements. In the 4th to 8th chapters, the student focuses on the standard flow of an opinion statement: Introduction (theme/opinion), Middle (causation/reasons/countermeasures, etc.), and End (conclusion), and step-by-step the student learns how to write each part. In the 9th to 11th chapters, the student thinks of his/her own ideas and practices writing his/her opinions based on his/her notes. In the mock exam, the student can try the exam questions three times.

Throughout the exam, questions are divided into three types. In this book, the student learns how to write opinion statements for each type: “Long and Short Type” questions, where the student expresses his/her opinion as to which one is better; “Predictive Type” questions, where the student thinks about and describes how things will turn out; and “Measures Type” questions, where the student considers and describes how to solve problems.

The topics covered in each lesson (science and technology, the environment, the economy, etc.) are pre-determined, and the vocabulary and information related to each topic are provided on the last page of each lesson, so even learners who can't think of what to write can still expand their knowledge.

The aim is for even students taking the exam for the first time to be able to write an opinion statement of around 400 characters within the time limit.
